it sounds to me like he was a jw before he became a physician.
"kalauawa, who became a jw 31 years ago, said he had to overcome a major conflict between his religious and professional beliefs, because jws are opposed to blood transfusions.
Big difference in my opinion.
Higher education is "discouraged" more than forbidden. Some are not allowed to serve, but it is considered a danger, not a sin. Blood on the other hand is one of the BIG sins. You know the JW big sins. Taking blood, celebrating a birthday or holiday, talking to disfellowshipped people and going to a different religions ceremony.
So yes he went to college, but that wasn't a sin.
My thoughts revolve around how this works in real time in the hospital. He sees someone in need of blood. He makes the call that it may be neccesary, and then asks someone else to order it? Is that really the process? So he makes the decision, the diagnosis, the recommendation.....but doesn't place the order......and its all good?
several threads on here about the excellent bbc r4 programme this week ('the report') focussing on rape and abuse in barry, south wales, jws.
fat pervert mark sewell later got 14 years and i hope he is enjoying every minute of it.. the courageous ladies who spoke on the programme were articulate, reasonable and made a tremendous impression.. the quote in the thread title made an impression on me, and i hope, on all listeners.. forget religious, theological, 'biblical' issues and cut to the basics.
a rape victim was asked to demonstrate - to demonstrate, ffs - to three unqualified (middle-aged at least, presumably) men just how far her legs were apart when she was raped.. i have rarely heard anything so outrageous, and i used to investigate rape and abuse in my profession.
Vidiot,
Actually thr story made me look for her on facebook. I sent a request......nothing yet. I should mention I think both our lives ended up very well. I am happily married with kids, and she was always a serious go getter.

Sorry i didn't get back to you sooner. Yes we did. But we were also young, and kind of doomed. She was a good person. I do not believe she is a JW still at all.....but she probably still wouldn't welcome my call if you know what i mean.
http://chrisfugue.tumblr.com/ weirdly fascinating lett take 2 (sorry for 1st error)
has anyone else heard this said more frequently lately?
"even if it's true..." i have seen it said on here a few times in quotes from in family or friends responding the negative things about the org.. i heard it tuesday night again.
in a pioneer sisters comment.
I'm so far away from this mentality now that it seems incredibly bizarre, and when I speak to JW's.....I must seem like an alien to them.
The STANDARD coping technique and well as the STANDARD excuse for wrongdoing amongst elders is that any retelling of a story, experience, or even if you were directly involved......is suspect and impossible for the hearer to really "know for sure".
I mean this is engrained in their mentality.
Yet somehow any story that makes its way back to headquarters from wherever in the world is touted at each convention....anonymously.

Let me add a personal experience here too.
When I was 18 I had sex with a JW girl I really liked and was talking to (had my bethel application in and had family there that was walking my application up so it was a done deal....boy am I glad I fornicated!).
Short story is I was disfellowshipped because it was "ongoing". But when I sat in my meeting, the guys started to get into the details, and an elder who I really liked (and still have much respect for....not an elder anymore also), took control of the group and said the following before it got going.
"problemaddict, so this is uncomfortable to talk about and you have come to us to talk about something very personal. I want to tell you, we don't want to know details, or personal information. Even the question i am about to ask I would rather not, but this will be the only one. Were you together with _____ multiple times? Meaning, what you came to us to discuss happened more than once right?"
Me: Yes.
"Okay well I am very sorry to have asked you that my brother and that is all we need to know. Lets talk about why you decided to come and talk to us"
So......I grew up around guys like this. Real deal people. BUT......the girl I spoke to told me about her meeting. It was personal, it was in depth, it was detailed, and she felt dirty telling three men by herself wether she had orally pleased her boyfriend, and enjoyed the sex that she had. At one point she told these guys...."don't all you guys have kids? I'm sure you know how this works. I don't want to talk about it anymore".
I was legitimately shocked! I just wasn't around those same types of people. Even now my exit has nothing to do with being around the nightmare people I hear about here all the time. Its amazing how experience varies so much.

The trick is this. The ridiculous and abusive act that these men asked her to somehow reinact (I'm not even sure how to explain what they did), can be brushed off by JW's as so absurd that it was just these guys doing something wrong. This is EXACTLY the way it plays out.
Rogue elder
isolated incident
nothing in print suggests that so it was wrong
they weren't following the direction of the slave
etc...
So while it is shocking and yet.....not shocking that it occured because of how we perceive the culture and the elders role within that culture....people there will no doubt bristle when they hear it, but they will brush it aside as not representative of the majority of judicial meetings. They are of course technically accurate.
earlier this week i bumped into a couple of jws who i recognised from the cult cart.
a few months ago i had a long conversation with him one of them and found him to be quite friendly.
he is new to the area in the years since i left.. this time he was very defensive and said he wasn't allowed to talk to me.
That is so uncomfortable to read, I'll bet it was even more uncomfortable to hear......and even MORE to actually SAY.
if ray franz would have kept his mouth shut and not disfellowshipped, and remained part of the governing body how many of us ex-jw would still be trapped in the cult?.
would we have come this far?.
I still haven't read them......but I know they have helped thousands either get out....or stay out.
